Augustus F. Sherman

An album project for the Museum of Emigration in Gdynia. Augustus F. Sherman was a photographer from the late 19th century to the 1920s. As an official working for Elis Island (New York), he was responsible for photographing immigrants who came from all over the world to the United States. Sherman's unusual portraits, through their depth and diversity, have gone into the canon of photography. The album is the only publication for this author, published in Poland. The book itself was printed with a special silver colour to highlight its uniqueness and reference to historical photographic techniques using silver chloride. The wrapper was made of a transparent foil to make a reference to a photographic film. The aesthetics of the whole dictates a classic typographic layout with an elegant, serif typeface.
